The Team Behind Cromer Lifeboat Football Cup

Cromer Lifeboat Football Cup was inaugurated in 1905 for local football teams by a committee consisting if local businessmen, fishermen, lifeboat committee members and members of Cromer Football Cup to raise funds for the Cromer lifeboat and has continued to raise funds for the past 113 years.  Since its inauguration the competition has continued during two world wars and carries on today raising funds for Cromer RNLI.  During the last 23 years the present committee has raised over £46,000 for Cromer RNLI, averaging £2,000 a year.

The committee has also been helped by local referees who have given their time for no financial reward  other than to support Cromer RNLI.  The competition is also grateful to the main sponsors who are Mary Janes Fish Restaurant, John Lee Fisherman, Hot Rocks Restaurant, IC Sports and Barnes Print.

This year’s final takes place on Monday 6 May 2019 at Cabbell Park, 6:30pm kick off.

In Cromer there are two boathouses, one for the All-Weather Lifeboat "Lester" on the pier and the other for the Inshore Lifeboat on the east promenade. This boathouse was originally built in 1902 for the then rowing and sailing lifeboat Louisa Heartwell. Also on the east promenade you'll find the Henry Blogg Lifeboat Museum. The whole town is proud of the man referred to as 'the greatest of the lifeboatmen', who gained national fame in the first half of the 20th century when navigation around the Norfolk coastline was particularly hazardous in easterly gales.
