Launch Information - 21/08/2020

RNLI Cromer’s inshore lifeboat ‘George and Muriel’ was paged at 08:37 and had launched by 08:50, for a shore line search for missing person.

The crew were tasked with searching an area from Cromer to Sheringham, then back to Trimingham. By giving assistance to the emergency services a large part of the coastline could be covered by the RNLI.

With the wind coming from a south to South west direction at a speed of 4 to 5 knots and a slight sea state, the crew were able to give help and support.

By 12:20 the inshore lifeboat was stood down and made ready for its next launch.

In Cromer there are two boathouses, one for the All-Weather Lifeboat "Lester" on the pier and the other for the Inshore Lifeboat on the east promenade. This boathouse was originally built in 1902 for the then rowing and sailing lifeboat Louisa Heartwell. Also on the east promenade you'll find the Henry Blogg Lifeboat Museum. The whole town is proud of the man referred to as 'the greatest of the lifeboatmen', who gained national fame in the first half of the 20th century when navigation around the Norfolk coastline was particularly hazardous in easterly gales.
